Root
canal surgery is the main treatment that counts under the
Endodontics. If you aren’t aware of it, read our last blog “
Endodontic 101” where we have discussed diseases and few
symptoms where you would need such kind of treatment. Let’s dig a
little bit deeper about root canal surgery.
Creating
Rubber Dam:
Before
starting the procedure, dentins place a rubber dam which is a thin
sheet of Latex (approximately 6"X 6") .Rubber dam or Dental
dam is important to isolate your tooth. Once it is set up properly,
the surgery initiates with creating whole in the middle of the sheet
to remove the decay part of the pulp. Metal clamps hold the sheet and
prevent it slipping off during operation.
Removing
the Decay from the Pulp and creating access to the Root
As
the aim of creating a whole to reach into the nerve system of your
tooth from the pulp chamber, if there is decay in pulp, it is removed
at this stage and clearly visible path to the root of tooth is
created.
Measurement
of Tooth Length:
For
accurate Endodontic Treatment, it
is necessary to measure the length of your tooth from its nerve
system. As per the length, the dentist gets an idea about the exact
deepness of your tooth where he needs to apply treatment. The length
is either measured by Radiographic or by electronic measurement
techniques. Different equipments are used with each method.
Cleaning
and Shaping of Root Canal:
At
this stage, cleaning of the root takes place. This step should be
performed very carefully as the entire success of this treatment
depends on cleaning and filling it with appropriate material.
Bacteria, waste tissues and other junk get removed from the root.
After removal of the junk from the pulp chambers, whole is converted
into proper shape which will be filled later with dental material.
Sealing
the Whole and choosing Tooth Restoration :
After
cleaning and shaping, Endodontist either fill it with temporary material or filled it with a permanent
material. A complete success of this surgery is driven by choosing
the appropriate dental restoration method recommended by your
dentists. So , depend on your treatment, root canal treatment can be
accomplished in two to three appointments.
